The Byron School District Libraries strive to create an inclusive experience in a dynamic learning environment that fosters a love for reading, supports a desire for knowledge, and promotes a sense of belonging for all who enter. In support of our district's mission, "To Develop 21st Century Community-Minded Learners" our libraries will:
Allow equal and easy access to a variety of resources and materials that are relevant, innovative, and rich in technology
Develop diverse collections that range in reading levels and support curriculum
Promote a culture of learning that supports 21st Century Skills
Encourage students to take an active role in their education
Reading Programs:
The Lincoln Award: Illinois Teen Reader's Choice Award is a reading program available to all high school students. The program is completely voluntary and students earn incentives based on how many books they read. For a book to reach the master list, adult and young adult fiction and nonfiction titles must be nominated by teachers or librarians and vetted by the nominations committee. While the popularity of a particular title is important, the overall quality of the work is of primary importance. Each year, a panel of high school librarians, teachers, public librarians and students determines the final master list of twenty titles. Use the link on each library's homepage to view this year's master list.
